Issaquah High School graduate Mario Sanelli, who played shortstop and second base for the Lakeside Recovery senior team last summer, has been honored as Washington’s American Legion Player of the year for 2009.

Sanelli, a 2008 Issaquah graduate, will be honored at the American Legion Youth of Champions banquet in February.

The American Legion has awarded Sanelli a scholarship for the current school year. He attends and plays baseball for Columbia Basin College.

Last spring, Sanelli helped Columbia Basin take second at the NWAACC tournament. During summer, he helped lead Lakeside to the state title and second place at the regional tournament.
