Eastside Catholic graduate and Oregon State freshman, Matt Boyd, is off to hot start to his collegiate career.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound left-hander is batting .429 through the Beavers’ first 10 games. He has also shown dominance on the mound posting a 2-0 record with a 1.93 ERA. In 14 innings he’s allowed seven hits and three earned runs, holding his opponents to a .146 batting average.

In his first career start on March 4, Boyd went 6 2/3 innings and hit a two-run home run to lead OSU to a 10-3 victory over UC Riverside. The Beavers are now 7-3 on the season.

Last season Boyd hit .446 with four home runs and 27 RBI for Eastside Catholic and then head coach Curt Towey. He posted a 6-2 record on the mound with a 0.84 ERA and 91 strikeouts. Boyd’s dad, Kurt, took over the helm for the Crusaders this season.
